Suggestions for "control" keys on converting a Porta-Pi from RetroPie to PiPlay
That tutorial explains everything nicely but if you have a question I just finished mine up. If you download the newest version you need to run this command or it will not work. sudo apt-get install ncurses-dev libexpat1-dev mholgatem's link…

Samples Location in Mame4all
You don't need to zip them inside each game ROM and you don't need to tell Mame4all where the folder is located. They will just use them if they are located in the right place. Under the Mame4all directory there should be a directory name…

pIMAME with adafruit controls buttons, joystick?
@mholgatem - Do you happen to know where a person could download the older Adafruit Retrogame zip package or someone that can share it? The newer one has some additional code in the retrogame.c for Adafruit's Cupcade and Vulcan Pinch (two-key …

Any suggestions? Anyone? I will be using the GPIO pins so to change the config around would take a bit more work. I was hoping to plan it out before getting into the GPIO to key mapping configuration. I want to be able to play and navigate with just…

Is artwork feature being worked on for MAME4ALL yet?
Are you confusing Artwork with bezels? I think some of the actual arcade games had images inside which were projected into the screen. Those images can't be emulated and have the actual image put to the screen through the emulator. Bezels on …

I need some help please
@mholgatem - Those might be good questions to add to a FAQ. They seem to pop up a lot more frequently. Like what versions of MAME ROMS MAME4ALL and AdvMAME use. Using a ROM manager like ClrMamePro or one of the others available out there. Where…

ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run.
@robot1125 - "mame4all_1.0_samples" are not game ROMS they are the sound samples for the games. You need the game in addition to the sound samples for those games to run properly. As mholgatem said you can use ClrMamePro to verify ROMS or…

what happens with advmame and mame4all if you use later romsets
@L1ght3d - Yeah I have seen games run with no issues even with a warning but also more often than not they throw an error about missing a ROM file and fail to run. Can you explain that a little more. What do you mean you "mixed" Ms. Pac-M…

@mholgatem - Thanks, that was explained better than I had. The up, down, left, right seemed pretty straight forward with the letter indicator and I figured VDD had to be ground but had no idea what the acronym stood for.

MAME4all config issue
That's nice and handy to remember that basically MAME4ALL doesn't like the brackets? If I may ask how do you reprogram the keys on the X-Arcade?

I did a search and didn't find anything useful except the standard ASCII mappings. I think you're right and the PiPlay guys might have to dig into that one. I would be curious what it is though.

what happens with advmame and mame4all if you use later romsets
If the ROM files haven't changed then they will work fine. Something like "golden era" games like Donkey Kong (dkong.zip) would probably work from a newer romset as there hasn't been many changes over the years. Three things may…

map esc to joystick?
I think you can map whatever you like but would that work? It would be like hitting the escape key every time you hit the up arrow on your joystick or something? Can you map a joystick direction + button in the emulators or is that not possible?

PiMame Menu is fullscreen, but emulators are 1/2 screen size (RPi -> GBS-8100 -> WG Tube)
That sounds really cool. I have no hardware to do such fun stuff. It's funny how we buy cards to "downgrade" the VGA signal to CGA? Arcade machines truly have gone full circle! :)

I agree I think the Pi is made to run "as-is" without issues with overclocking especially if they are willing to allow it without voiding the warranty. If it dies a few months out of warranty (1 year?) then they hit the nail on the head of…
