Games for mame
  • Does anyone have some must have games for a arcade cabinet? Plz the more the better.
  • I am not sure what game emulator you're looking to play games with as PiPlay runs a lot of emulators but most ROM downloads you can't discuss on the website.

If you're looking for a free MAME ROMS http://www.mamedev.org does have a small section of about 20 free, non-commercial use games under the ROMS section.

I am not sure if the other emulators have free ROMS. Others might be able to answer that better.
  • Other than the free, non-commercial ROMs that are made available, downloading ROMs is illegal. Although there are plenty of places on the Internet to find them, those sites are not shared here, as piracy is not condoned.
  • I'm using mame4all. I don't want the link for the games. I just want to know what games should I put in my arcade cabinet.
  • as written almost everywhere, you should get mame gp2x_wiz 2.2 full romset for 0.37b5 which works well with mame4all-pi : see https://code.google.com/p/mame4all-pi/

    "SUPPORTED GAMES

Folder names or ZIP file names are listed on "gamelist.txt" file. Romsets have to be MAME 0.37b5 ones (July 2000). Additionaly there are additional romsets from newer MAME versions.

Please use "clrmame.dat" file to convert romsets from other MAME versions to the ones used by this version, using ClrMAME Pro utility, available in next webpage:

NOTE: File and directory names in Linux are case-sensitive. Put all file and directory names using lower case!"
  • hello:
I have install PiPlay 0.8.0 beta and I want play advmame or mame4all but always get this error "required files are missing...". I have used rom version 0.37b5 and others.

    Thanks.
  • @danielmc, see here: http://www.pimame.org/forum/discussion/comment/3311#Comment_3311

Basically, you need to make a symbolic link like so:
    rm -r ~/pimame/emulators/mame4all-pi/roms
    ln -s ~/pimame/roms/mame4all ~/pimame/emulators/mame4all-pi/roms

What I did was search for top 80's and 90's arcade games. There are quite a few lists that appear on the web. Save you having poor games on your arcade.

Just a shame Outrun runs badly with poor sound. All the rest run well from that time. strider, golden axe, double dragon, final fight, black tiger, bionic commando, bubble bobble, street fighter 2.

For Capcom and NeoGeo then you want to use Final Burn emulator. You don't quite have the options like MAME but it runs those games really well.

    Enjoy your arcade!
