compatibility with new Rpi B+?
  • Will PiPlay be compatible with the new RPi B+ unit? I noticed on the site that i get pcbs from that the B+ unit was not compatible with the same Noobs or Raspbian distros and they recommended updating the distros. So I was curious what the situation with PiPlay would be.
  • I too am eager to find out!
  • It will be. There may be some hiccups, but we will make sure that we get it all working on the B+. We will probably have to put out a custom image for the B+ if it needs a different version of raspbian.
  • I don't think this should be a problem at all. Only hardware changes on the new model. Only problem thing that could mess up is that audio jack that is also used for the component video.
  • Awesome, thanks greatly for the super quick responses! I am considering a B+ for a gaming/emu box, so PiPlay seems ideal!
  • I've been using the new B+ and everything has been working fine. There are two failure errors while booting but nothing serious yet. All my roms have been working so far. I connected my arcade speakers and they worked as well.
  • PiPlay 0.8.4 uses the latest Raspbian from June, which has "updated firmware" which must've been an update for the B+ model.
  • Good news for xin-mo users, the latest rpi update use 3.12.25 kernel and the xin-mo module is natively present and fonctionnal. No more need to compile kernel/modules ;)

My binaries from https://github.com/ian57?tab=repositories have been tested succesfully on the latest B+ with raspicade see https://sourceforge.net/p/raspicade/wiki/HowTo/
  • I belive that with the new B+ we dont need Xin-Mo anymore, right? We just need to use the GPIOs, right?
  • @lsalcedo : Yes it cab be a solution, juste need to modify the adafruit retrogame program... one of the things to do for raspicade.... already two players with retrogame2players https://github.com/ian57/Retrogame-2players but need to modify the pins mapping
  • good to hear. i just bought a B+ for my new bartop... it will arrive soon :)
    thanks again ian57
