If you are using PiMAME 0.8, then joystick support is built in.

Basic NOOB question
Ok. The menu doesn't use startx. The menu system is just a console app written in pygame and python. Startx will bring you into the X Windows GUI environment. PiMAME includes X Windows, but doesn't use it. To escape out of the PiMAME …

You can add an overridemenu = yes in config.yaml under the MAME4ALL item and it will revert to the original menu.

On pimame 0.8 from the pimame/pimame-menu/ folder, type python ./launchmenu.py

Make sure you are running the latest update. From the command line type: wget -O - http://pimame.org/update.sh | bash and hit enter to update.

Crash to cmd line when starting an emulator with USB controller plugged in
I dont have the USB NES Controller but I do have the USB SNES controller. I will try it out with that tonight.

[Question] Update from 7.10 to 8.0
So, there is no good way to upgrade since its so different, but the best way would be to copy your roms to a temporary folder, run the ./uninstall.sh script, then run the 0.8 installer. Now move the roms to the new pimame/roms/ folder.
