Alphabetical order rom listing
I will try to grab mine off of the Pi and post it in here. It seems like that should work, it doesn't throw any errors or anything, and it looks like the recommended sorting method in Python... will report back in a bit with contents.

Help!! No sound
So the sound should be going through the HDMI also then? You may have to force the sound to output over HDMI in the /boot/config.txt file. There is a forum topic about it here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5062

Darn, didn't work for me. I changed the line that originally said: self.rom_list = rom_list to what you said above: self.rom_list = sorted(rom_list, key=lambda rom: rom['title']) Same scrambled listing as before.

Help!! No sound
Do you have speakers plugged in? Are they turned on? How about the volume? You aren't really giving us any idea what you have tried, or what the problem is. We can't help you if you don't give us enough information.

Help!! No sound
I have similar issues when I first got my Pi set up. If you have an HDMI cable hooked up, it is trying to output the sound over HDMI. You will have to specify the target of your sound if you want it to go to the 3.5mm jack. A simple search of the…

How Do You Upload ROM's via Network?
On your main PiPlay menu, there should be an IP address in the top right corner (if you have it on the network already). Plug that ip address into any web browser, and it will take you to the ROM uploader.

They have a switch on the back for different configurations. The default configuration can't be changed, but if you change to another configuration, you can program the buttons/joystick to anything you want. Instructions here: http://www.xgam…

I re-programmed the X-Arcade player 2 key 5 to be V (instead of '[') and key 6 to be B (instead of ']') and now MAME4all lets me map them accordingly. Phew!

So far my best option I have come up with is to re-configure the X-arcade buttons to map to different keys on the keyboard. It appears that both the [ and ] keys are not recognized from within the emulator. All other keys seem to work fine, so now…

Can you take a picture of the bottom of the joystick? Not the part where you have the wires coming out of, but the whole bottom of the joystick?

Do you have the diagram of the encoder? The joystick should have 4 micro-switches on the bottom that are activated when the joystick is moved in the 4 directions (up, down, left, right). Each of those can be wired separately to the encoder. You w…

You should be able to wire ANY joystick to it. There isn't a specific one that it will work with. A joystick is just four micro-switches. You wire the micro-switches to the appropriate pins on your encoder, and you're set.

My bad, it is actually the '[' key that it should be mapped to. But the question remains :)

Have you mapped the keys in the individual emulators? I have a USB x-arcade controller that works great for the menu, but I have had to also configure it to work with each individual emulator separately.

Games for mame
@danielmc, see here: http://www.pimame.org/forum/discussion/comment/3311#Comment_3311 Basically, you need to make a symbolic link like so: rm -r ~/pimame/emulators/mame4all-pi/roms ln -s ~/pimame/roms/mame4all ~/pimame/emulators/mame4all-pi/roms

Other than the free, non-commercial ROMs that are made available, downloading ROMs is illegal. Although there are plenty of places on the Internet to find them, those sites are not shared here, as piracy is not condoned.

Windows Remote Desktop and PiMAME not working
I just saw the note at the bottom of your post. You're trying to run PiPlay on your Kindle?? I'm sure there are preferable ways to get emulators to run on an Android OS.

I agree, if you have a Windows machine, just run your emulators on that. If you want to run them on the Pi, use the Pi.

rom confusion
You need to create a symbolic link for the roms folder. The default setup in PiPlay has two different folders, one for the menu, and one where it actually looks for the roms when you select them. Make them the same folder like so: rm -r ~/pimame/…

@Chad, any tips on using ClrMamePro? I tried using it once, and it was just too much of a hassle so I didn't bother with it.

Is it really that hard to use your controller to go left and right? I understand it is a slight inconvenience, but to me, that is a small price to pay to be able to play my old favorites on my Pi :)

Escaping games using a controller
If you hit the TAB button inside of an emulator, it should take you to a menu. You can then choose the UI buttons option on the menu, and then you can find the one for exit game or whatever you want to do, and change it to whichever button you want.
