How do I add more emulators to advmenu?

Hi, I have an issue with playing games other than arcade games using advmenu. I can't seem to be able to run any ROMs beside arcade ROMs. I was able to use this guide:

to make advmess show up as an emulator option, but when I try to run either of the two ROMs I have downloaded, it shows the command line like it's going to work, then brings me back to advmenu. I haven't added any of the other emulators as I don't have any ROMs for the emulators in usr/local/bin, and I can't find any other emulators. Anyone know what to do?

advmess has some issues with advmenu. What specific emulators are you trying to run?

Hm. After further investigation, it seems the only problem is with advmess. Any alternative to run NES games?
