Xin-mo and TP Link W725N - Can I have both?
  • Hi folks,

So I started with a fresh PiPlay 0.8 Beta 9 Image and my Pi 2B booted up nicely.

    - To get Wifi working with my TP Link W725N, I followed the instructions here to install the drivers:
    https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=62371&hilit=wn725n

Great - wifi working nicely. So I log in and upload some roms. I tried out a game and found that my Xin-mo controller was experiencing the problem described here:
    https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=99081

To fix this, I installed the custom Kernel described here:
    http://blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/autofire-on-the-axis/#post-87758

My Xin-mo works perfectly, but now my TP Link W725N isn't being recognized any more. When I do uname -a I get:
    3.18.9-v7+ #5.

So I downloaded the TP Link drivers most closely matching this i.e.:

    3.18.9-v7+ #767, #768 - 8188eu-v7-20150307.tar.gz
    3.18.9-v7+ #772 - 8188eu-v7-20150307.tar.gz

I installed these but no dice. The TP Link still isn't recognized.

Will it be possible to get my Xin-mo and my TP Link adapter working?

  • Ok - so my conclusion is that unless you are running a standard Raspbian distro, you can't get the TP Link W725N to work - as will be the case if you need to recompile the Kernel or use a custom kernel to get the Xin-mo to work.

So I shelled out €10 and got an Edimax EW-7811UN. Plugged it in, rebooted and hey presto - PiPlay shows my IP address - couldn't have been any easier!
  • woo! sorry you had to shell out some money to get it working. But hey, at least it works! I was just reading that the latest linux kernel now supports arm 7 (raspberry pi 2). That's good news for everyone because we will have more access to stable drivers!
  • No probs!

I'm really happy with the performance of my setup with the Pi 2. I was using a PI 1B and sound was very choppy on SF2 but now it's perfect! Very pleased
