Running Stella on .8Beta9
  • Has anyone had any luck getting Stella (Atari 2600 Emulator) to run from within PiPlay? I can run Stella from within a console window in X, but it won't run from within PiPlay, and it won't run from a command line outside of X.

    To run inside X: Open Terminal Window, on command line type "stella" - works like a champ.

    Trying to run from command line outside X: type "stella" -- crashes Raspi. Screen goes blank and everything locks up. Requires hard restart with power switch.

    Trying to run from inside PiPlay: Not sure what to put in the command line; tried to simply use "stella" like I did in X, but it crashes just like running from the command line outside of X.
  • What are you using as the display? This sounds like an SDL / framebuffer problem.

  • I'm using a Dell 1908FP with a 1280 x 1024 native resolution.

    I have gone into the database manager and enabled the emulator, but I am unsure what the command line for it should be.

    If it is an SDL / framebuffer problem, how could I troubleshoot that?
  • Also, this is a Raspi B+, not a -2.
  • OK, problem fixed. Detailed information here:

    But bottom line: Exit PiPlay. From command line:
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

    Reboot. Then Stella works fine from the command line, stil tweaking PiPlay menu to get it working from the menu.

Howdy, Stranger!
