Portable console

I am trying to make a portable games console. At the moment I have 2 screens; adafruit 2.8" and a watterott 2.8". I have seen mixed answers as to which emulators will work with the screens but it is my understanding that probably the only one to use is advmame? If this is so, is there an up-to-date version on github for download or has it been replaced by piplay? I can't seem to find instructions of how to get piplay from github, is the only option to write the img to an SD?

Also, is anybody still using the pimame github instillation with success? I am having some major troubles with it...

The installation script is more or less deprecated... It's also for 0.7.10 which is really old.
You could try this: http://pimame.org/installer.sh but it's a very old version of 0.8 and may not update properly
Using an image is by far the easiest.

Ah ok thanks. To your knowledge, will the main menu with piplay work well enough with a screen, because as i understand it Advmame is the only playable emulator with the screen?

I think so, anything that uses OpenGL won't work. Although it does mention NES on the site here: https://learn.adafruit.com/cupcade-raspberry-pi-micro-mini-arcade-game-cabinet/hardware-setup

I think FCEU (NES) might work too :)
