Yeah- start here- they're using PiTFT in this product (Cupcade). I plan to do something similar, but I'm using one of those $15 composite LCD backup displays on ebay.
There's a tutorial on how to recreate it, and even an image to download for the pi.
You can still use the tutorial that pilesofspam gave you. It walks you through how to set up the screen and get it working, regardless of what other software you want to run on it. then you just install piplay.
