Game controller-- what am I doing wrong?

I have a Logitech gamepad F310 and it doesn't work at all. Am I supposed to configure something? I have it in a powered hub which is also powering the raspberry pi.
Also. I'm trying raiden.zip but the sound is all choppy in advancedmame and doesn't exist in mame4all. Is there a way to fix that? mame4all is also running way too fast.

By the way, the game controller seems to be recognized as a Logitech Dual controller int he boot dialog.
