I want everyone to know that my pipe dream of cabinet only became a reality because of the PiPlay project and the RPI. Ive been wanting to do this for about a decade now but the cost of all the electronics and cabinet were very prohibitive. I still need graphics for the marquee and sides but the hard part is behind me. Thanks to you all who work on this project and have helped me with my noob questions along the way.
Built it into an X-arcade solo. It's an easily portable arcade machine now. Just take it to a friends and plug it into their TV.
Last year I built a 3D printer, so I printed a bezel to make it nice and clean. Never tried to link a shared photo via G+ before, let me know if this can't be viewed and I'll try something else.
My Burgertime themed bartop. Still in progress, but it's almost finished. Today or tomorrow i'll add the artwork on the sidepanels, finish the t-molding, and repair some paintwork. It's all wired up and works.
Small update. My Burgertime theme bartop is finished. There is 1 small thing i have to do. That's the artwork for the marquee. I've made a mistake with the size, so have to make a new one.
There are some things that could have been done better. But in the end, i'm happy with it. Next year i'm going to build a full-size cabinet. And powered with a PC instead of the Raspberry Pi.
I made a bartop arcade and finished it a couple of months ago. Made the design by myself. It's called the DeeCade (Dutch Arcade, orange/red/white/blue). Pictures: http://www.qbasiq.com/myfiles/1.jpg http://www.qbasiq.com/myfiles/2.JPG Running PiPlay and only have the MAME4ALL in use at the moment. Got the full 037b5 romset available to play with, so around 2200 MAME-games, including the real cool ones :-)
My next project, somewhere next year, will be a VCabinet(VerticalCabinet). This will also emulate MAME, but will also emulate the marquees on a 22" monitor that sits vertically in the cab. Running windows though, instead of a pi. http://www.qbasiq.com/myfiles/3.jpg
I recently switched over to PiPlay and after a little futzing, I'm liking it a lot better than RetroPie. Here's the build I made last year for that system that I'm using now with PiPlay!
awesome build @Draven_x! I like it a lot. I plan on building a full size 'classy' case like yours. I think that I'm going to add some copper plating scratch guards around the joystick and buttons though.
Great job guys. I'm starting my journey now to build a two player table top with PiPlay ofcourse :) So it's a lot of inspiration to look at all of your arcades.
Here's my "completed" 2 player system. I'm using a slightly customized version of PiPlay's menu. Been great playing retro games from my childhood with my 6 year old.
Bringing back an old thread, I'm almost done with a mini-mame. I still need to make the marquee (need some white LEDs) but the rest is done. Another thread I posted about the custom buttons- those are 3D printed with a mouse microswitch, which is pretty much the only way to play joust on something this small. The kids like TMNT, Kung-Fu, and Gauntlet. The joystick is a little expensive at $15, but the screen costs about $15 too- it's one of those LCDs intended to be a backup camera bought off of Ebay. I've got an ebay 5V amp in there with some 1.5" speakers too. Banana for scale.
