Newbie question: Buying two Joysticks
  • Inspired by this site, I going to buy my first raspberry pi kit. :-D
My first goal is to set up everything an make the 'Metal Slug' series work with two joysticks.

Unfortunately, I do not have the patience nor skills to build cases for these Sanwa sticks and buttons.
I would like to buy some joysticks.

    - What set of joysticks with some buttons can you recommend me?

I found these Universal USB Fighting Stick (http://www.mayflash.com/Products/UNIVERSAL/PC042.html) to be a good compromise between price and function.

    My big questions is:
    - Are two of these Mayflash sticks working with PiMAME and its emulated systems? Do I have to expect a big hassle and recompile every driver?
  • So I really like that arcade stick. I have one myself. I don't have two, so I haven't tried that yet.

  • Interesting. It looks like a rip-off of my Datel Arcade Stick.

Must be different USB controller inside as I have nightmares trying to get it work properly.
  • Hi there, here is an update.

I bought two "PS3 fighting sticks Mini" from HORI.

Good value for the money for a beginner like me who wants a compact solution.

    I am using a "Typ B"-board(Rev. 2, 512MB RAM) and the "0.8.0 Beta 3"-SD-image.

    I tested the neogeo game
    1. with a keyboard. Result: Keyboard key input of player1 does work from default :-D
    2. with a keyboard and 1 joystick. Result: It didnt work the first time. But when I somehow pressed some Joystick buttons when booting up it did work. That means: Both, the keyboard keys and some of the joystick buttons do work from default! I was able to play the game. :-D
    Awesome work from Shea Silverman!

    The next steps would be:
    - Making tests with two of such "joysticks"
    - Re-mapping of the inputs because
    * the joystick layout is not very good for this game.
    * when using a keyboard and a joystick I could only trigger inputs of player 1 from both devices. I believe this will be the same case when using two joysticks.

So, is there a guide to how to config the mapping of the neogeo inputs? Do I have to recompile the emulator with a different resource file? Or am I missing an existing config file?

Also, is there a wiki with guides, lists of compatible devices etc?
I would like to contribute and document my changes for others that try to do the same.

    [edit]:
After reading some other forum post, I understand that I might better tryout FBA and the other MAME-emulators that should be easier configurable.
  • @cBashTN, any luck getting the Hori stick mini's horizontal and vertial axis to work with the piplay menu or any of the emulators?
