ESC button on bartop

Since we can shutdown and restart on PiMAME menu my bartop will only have one extra ESC button.
How can I config that on every emulator? Everytime when I press this button Ill go back to PiMAME screen. -
No keyboard on my bartop.

Hi there! There is a project called retrogame by Adafruit:

It's aRaspberry Pi GPIO-to-USB utility for classic game emulators.
On this page you'll find an example how to implement it for joystick and buttons, but I think it's also possible to map every keyboard button:
