No sound, missing piplay-sound.state
  • I am totally new to PiPlay. I downloaded version 8 beta 7. I used MAME about 8 years ago and it appears my ROMs are still good. They run, but I don't get any sound. I had sound when I used MAME back then. I am currently using HDMI to a TV. I have tried both AdvMenu and Mame4All and none of the games (Space Invaders, Kong, Asteriod, etc.) have sound. I download some sound samples for Mame4All, yet still no sound. I keep getting a error stating that piplay-sound.state can not be found. How does piplay-sound.state get created? Could this be my problem? Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  • piplay-sound.state shouldn't have anything to do with it. it's just an alsa-sound state file that piplay looks for when it's loaded, if it's found, it will change the alsa settings to that, if it's not found, nothing is done. You can get rid of the error by pressing 'tab' in the piplay main menu, then change the volume and exit out of the menu. it will save your new alsa settings to piplay-sound.state.

Chances are, you need to force audio to your hdmi. if you exit to command line, then type:
     sudo raspi-config

Option 8 (advanced options) -> Option A6 (audio) -> Option 3 (force hdmi)
  • Hi, downloaded beat 9 and have this problem, boots to the emulator choice screen then when one is selected i get this error. have forced the audio through HDMI still same result. any ideas?
  • so that error is gone but having problems with alsa now, plugged in a headset and forced audio to the jack and seems to have solved this
