struggling to make a working bootable SD
  • hi,

this is probably quite a lame question, but I have searched extensively.

I've bought a used Pi that came with a SD card with the Raspbian distro its all working fine.

I've downloaded various versions of the Piplay distro and am writing the image to a new Sandisk 8Gb SD using ImageWriter

I cannot get my Pi to boot with it. Several times, my Windows7 laptop will tell me that the card is corrupt, or, today I made a card and appears to have files on it, but the screen attached to my Pi just stays dark.

    What am I doing wrong?

    thanks

    Jonathan
  • There are a couple things that it could be, can you answer some questions so that we can narrow it down?

Is it a completely black screen that you are getting or is there an error message?
Are you using composite or hdmi for video?
If it is a completely black screen, have you tried to ssh or ftp into your pi?
Did you use SDformatter to format your card first?
Have you tried using win32diskimager to write the image?
