Help! Keypress repeat problems with KeyWiz-ST on PiMAME
  • I'm building an PiMAME arcade cabinet and finishing up the control panel. I bought a GPWiz-ST (PS/2 interface) from Groovy Gamer Gear). Because the KeyWiz is a PS/2 interface, I have plugged it into a PS/2 to USB converter (one that is a Y-splitter for mouse and keyboard). When I try to play a game such as Donkey Kong or Robotron and hold one of the joysticks in any direction, the KeyWiz will not repeat the keypresses repeatedly, and the result is my character on the screen will "stutter". In fact, AdvanceMame and MAME4All both have this "control stutter" in their GUIs when selecting a game. If I plug in a standard USB keyboard and use it to play games on PiMAME, keypresses are not and issue. Does anyone know what is going on here? Is it possible the PS/2 to USB converter is causing this problem? Is the KeyWiz at fault? Is there a way to configure the KeyWiz/upgrade the firmware?

BTW, I've adjusted the keypress repeat rate in PiMAME to insane values such as 50ms, and it does not help.
  • Hi!
I use myself a keywiz st too and I don't have any problem with it (except maybe a small input delay... But nothing serious)
But i do remember used (and buy too) 3 differrent ps/2 - USB converter (and not adapter) before it work like a charm (working cost me 12€ so around 16-17$ i guess)
It can be lead for your problem
  • Thanks! One of my friends gave me a pile of USB to PS2 active converters and I eventually found one that works! I guess it has to do with how much current the active USB to PS2 converter draws.
