piplay with xbox 360 controllers - not working for me
  • hi people,

i am having a really hard time getting my controller to work in mame (specifically) - i didnt try or really have no plans on trying anything other than mame.

it works fine in the initial piplay bootup ui - but soon as i start mame, it's gone... (back button seems to bring it back to piplay mame menu)

i have tried following steps from :
http://piplay.org/forum/discussion/1735/bugs-in-8-beta-9#Item_6 (basically adding --detach-kernel-driver in .profile)

and a similar post from :
    http://piplay.org/forum/discussion/947

can anyone give me any pointers? did the controllers work for you folks out of the box in mame?
anything i can set in mame specifically to enable the config?
i just use the standard xbox360 controller, with the gaming receiver ( http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-other-devices/windows/xbox-360-wireless-gaming-receiver-windows )
  • which mame? mame4all or advmame? If it's advmame, you need to make sure that you run the controller config inside of the piplay main menu. press 'tab' to open the popup->controller setup->arcade

if it's mame4all, you need to run a game first, then press 'tab' in the emulator to open the menu, then configure your buttons from there.
  • hi

to press 'tab' - do i have to have keyboard connected? (for either one?)

does 'tab' in piplay main menu take me to the mentioned controller setup?

there is a toggle controller menu option there also, which isnt what you mean, right?

i have been trying mame4all but ill try both - thanks for your help!
  • yes, 'tab' in the piplay main menu will give you a popup with several extra options (one of them near the bottom is the controller config).
If you are using mame4all though, then you will want to use the config options that are found inside that particular emulator (the mame4all config is not accessible from piplay). But in either case, yes, you will need a keyboard to press tab. After the config, you won't need the keyboard anymore.
You could also alter the xbox controller config file, so that one of your buttons outputs 'tab'.
  • my thanks for your help!
