Thoughts and advice on connecting multiple input devices
  • Here is my dilemma. My favorite game was Tempest, my wife was the Centipede expert, the kids prefer the games they grew up with like TMNT and TG16 games. So I need to hook up 2 joysticks w 3 buttons each, a trackball and spinner. I purchased a couple of the USB controller boards, which work fine for the joysticks and associated buttons. I'm now looking at getting the trackball and a spinner. Is there a preferred method for hooking these up? Should I hook them to the USB boards and move the joysticks onto the GPIO on the Pi? I see some trackballs come with USB hookup, others with the 'standard' wiring. In addition to the 2 USB controllers, one more USB port is taken up by my wireless keyboard/mouse, and the last USB is occupied by the wireless (although that is acting very flaky these days). Anyhow, since I want to get everything laid out and working properly prior to working on a cabinet, at this point, I can easily move things around.
Hence my question for this group of experts. Is there an optimal way to hook everything up? (Yes, I know some will suggest I've created a monster, but with only two players and 3 buttons per, it's not too terrible)
    Thanks
  • I would recommend the Ultimarc I-Pac or Mini-Pac. Here are links to both:
