I have recently flashed pimame 0.8 beta 5 to a 16gb class 4 sd card. I have found that the game sounds and speeds are a bit sluggish. I overclocked the pi to High settings and now the game speeds are better but the game sounds are still a bit slow or sluggish. Will it make a noticeable difference if I were to flash pimame to a class 10 SD card and will this speed up the sound issues?
From what I understand it will improve the performance overall because it is the only memory for the system and where everything is stored and runs off of so read and write speeds play a big part.
I would recommend messing with the audio quality settings of each emulator. (there is usually an audio_quality setting). Also, overclocking to 'Turbo' can fix a lot of problems. Is there an emulator in particular that you are having problems with?
I definitely recommend grabbing a class 10 card if you are going to overclock though. The slower cards will crap out faster.
I am going to buy a new set of SD cards and then mess around with the sound settings. I had issues with mame4all and nes emulators but havent really tried the others. I reckon faster SD cards and overclocking should do the trick.
we switched to the fceux for the nes mostly because it handles sound better. if you are having problems, definitely try the overclocking. I've been able to get near flawless sound on nes
