Switch off certain buttons in Advancemenu?
  • I have my Advancemenu set up almost perfectly, except for one thing:

I have it working with my hacked usb gamepads, but I'm trying to limit the input that is allowed.
I want the basic up, down, left, right, select for browsing the rom list and selecting the game, and also a button to shut down the machine (this button being hidden around the back of the cabinet).

I have all of this set up and working fine, but unfortunately I also have a 'menu' button that I don't want!

My goal is to make the cabinet as kiosk-like as possible.
I have achieved this goal in that the regular control panel cannot be used to access any menus, adjust any settings, or even shut down the cabinet.
All the user can do is browse the list of games, select a game, play the game, and exit back to the list of games again.

There is one 'admin' button around the back of the cabinet for maintenance and adjustments, an there is always the option of plugging in a keyboard if I need to do anything drastic.
All of this will be hidden from the user, who will simply experience a user-friendly multi-game arcade cabinet.

I have it set up perfectly except for this one damn button!

It seems as though, when Avancemenu is set up to use a controller, it maps certain functions to that controller that can't be changed.

This is fine for the most part, but it does seem to be preventing me from unmapping the menu function from one of my buttons.

I have tried deleting everything in advmame.rc that pertains to the function 'event_assign menu', but that doesn't work.

I have tried assigning a key that I know will not be used (I used the 'e' key on the keyboard) but all that did was to call up the menu if the button OR 'e' is pressed.

Unless someone knows why this is happening (and how to change it) I'm going to be forced to physically wire that button to some other function, such as 'insert coin' and hope that nobody happens to activate it while in Advmenu.

    Please help!
