Alright, I am literally having the hardest to get MAME4ALL to work with my current ROMs. I am assuming that the Raspberry Pi MAME4ALL is based on similar code to the iOS MAME4ALL in Cydia. So, I get my jailbroken iPhone 4 and install iMAME4ALL and place the ROMs in there; they work fine right off the bat. However, when I place exactly the same ROMs into the Raspberry Pi, I get a black screen with white text saying all the files it couldn't find, similar to if the MAME version didn't match up. So, the problem is the Pi because the ROMs function just fine on the iOS version. I've tried both PiMame 0.8 Beta 1 and PiPlay Beta 3 and neither of them work. Please help me figure out what I'm going wrong. The ROMs I tried were Dig Dug and Donkey Kong. (I have tried using ClrMamePro to no avail.) Thank You in Advance.
make sure that they are in zip format. also make sure that they are version 0.37b5. Lastly, I believe that there are two folders that you may need to have roms in, or create a symbolic link in one pointing to the other. the normal roms folder, and then check in the emulators/mame4all folder
There are a couple threads on here addressing this issue. Basically, the mame4all roms are saved in two different places by default. If you upload them in the rom folder, they will display in the rom list when you select mame4all, but the emulator looks for them in a folder under the emulator folder. If you check this link: http://www.pimame.org/forum/discussion/comment/2569#Comment_2569
There is information on how to create a symbolic link so the two folders are looking in the same place.
Thank you guys so much. I actually stumbled upon the linked thread but somehow I misinterpreted it. I actually misread it and moved the rom to the other folder without copying it so that it was at both locations. I appreciate the help so so much, that problem was annoying me for days.
No prob, I had the same issue when I first started using PiPlay! I think that it is supposed to be fixed in the next release though, so at least new users won't have the same problems as we did :)
