PiPlay beta 3 not fully functional?
  • Hi,

Is it possible that i can not play mame4all games on the piplay beta3 for the moment?
I have only a couple of emulators with white background, mame4all for example has grey background.
When i click mame4all i only get a screen saying BACK... Roms are in the correct folder tho since i a also have pimame and that works.

    Thanks
  • I will look into that. It is a very early beta but MAME4ALL should still work.
  • I don't have my Pi running currently but I had to dump the ROMS in two locations. One where the ROMS are located for all games but also in the ROM emulator directory under something like mame4all-pi/ROMS. If I had them in one location it didn't work.

It was like one location listed them under Menu but when I ran a game it said I was missing ROMS so I added it to the other location and it worked fine.

From what I remember you need them in both locations I am sure it's a bug that will get ironed out.

Also if there's no ROMS (or it thinks there's no ROMS) then the menu item is grayed out. I was a confused about that at first too! :) MAME4ALL does work but it needs to see the ROMS before it shows as "ungreyed".

As a test dump it in both locations and see what happens.
  • you should make a symbolic link that points one folder to the other. I don't have mine up right now, but I'm pretty sure that is what I did.
  • thanks chad!

I have placed the files in both directorys and now they work ( mame4all is now also a white background)

now i need a fancy frontend for the mame4all so i can see my snaps and titles, now i only see the rom file names
  • Next version has snaps :)
  • @jeroendv - That's great! I agree I think snaps and some other nice features are in the works.

@mholgatem - Does it matter which way you point the symbolic link? Is one way a "better practice" than the other?

Also is it possible to pipe the mame.exe game list to have full names in MAME4ALL? I think it's in the FAQ for how to do it for ADVMAME but does that work for MAME4ALL too?
  • @Shea - That's awesome! :)
  • @Chad - best practice would be to keep all of the roms in a common area, so I would go into your emulator folder and remove the 'rom' folder, then create a symbolic link pointing to the pimame/roms/mame4all folder.

Also, in the next version, along with the snaps, full names of games will be available. We have a rom scraper that will grab the names of games along with screenshots.
  • Ok I will do that. Is that a bug or I think I read a while ago in another post someone was saying it's random? I can't wait for the new release and some of the new features, it's really shaping to be THE Pi emulator! :)
  • looking forward to the new version, i have all emulators tested and working so all i need to do now is wait for the new version for the snaps, i already have placed a snap pack in the correct folders.

For windows i use maximus arcade so i was used of having snaps for all my roms :-)

I am also now trying to get super street fighter 4 arcade edition to work with the Pi, i can already stream the game via steam on Pi but it has a little delay and my computer has to run for it also.
