HOW TO Guide and help to finish my project
I just configured a TankStick for a friend and I actually ended up using the second memory bank (switch on the back) to program the TankStick with a PS/2 keyboard plugged in. It seemed to be a lot easier than getting Mame4All or AdvMame to play with…

Can't get certain ROMs to work or no sound!!!!
You might not be outputting sound to the HDMI port. Do you get any sound if you plug in speakers to the 1/8" jack? Try this from the command line: sudo amixer cset numid=3 2 This makes the HDMI the default port for audio sudo amixer cset num…

Mame4All enter/exit slowness after taking ownership...
So, it seems that after some tooling around, the permissions are the definite cause for the lag in entering/exiting the games. It seems like this is a necessary evil because the only way to get Mame4All to remember your keyboard maps or high scores …

AdvMAME sound issue
Mame4All works WAY better when it comes to audio and game play. Advmenu just has a lot more overhead which I believe is the reason for the "warbly" audio.

How high did you try boosting the HDMI signal? I had a monitor that would only be stable when I set the hdmi_boost to 9! I believe it goes up to 11 (ha), but they don't recommend it.

Getting AdvMenu background sound working
Definitely a fun experiment, but not an ideal work around! If you do get it working though, please let us know!

Getting AdvMenu background sound working
I'm POSITIVE it's a limitation of the Pi and how AdvMenu works...I tried it out of the analog output and got the same results.

Ha! That's awesome! I hope you find a solution. I ended up giving up and using mame4all instead...much smoother game play, configurable splash screen and menu, but nowhere near as configurable as AdvMenu. Good Luck!

default.cfg file for mame4all (key maps) does not save
I noticed this problem as well...I seemed to fix it with: sudo chmod 777 /home/pi/emulators/mame4all-pi/cfg/ (or wherever your "mame4all/cfg/" folder is... However, there is a lag when exiting the games...it's a tradeoff.

I also tried converting my files to .wavs as well as changing the sample rate, bit rate, and volumes...no luck. Sorry I don't have a better answer :(

Getting AdvMenu background sound working
Hey nayphee, I've tried to get the sound in advmenu to work properly and it's just awful...Someone else had commented on the board that it's no better via a USB audio device, so I'm assuming it has more to do with the limitation…

OMG. I'm dumb. It's a file. Not a directory. Thanks again FortyRock!

[SOLVED] MAME settings not saving in new Installer Script Version...
SOLVED. I realized that the "pi" user id didn't have read write access to the ".advance" folder or it's contents.

Thanks Shea! Does the update overwrite the advmenu and advmame files, or does it just do a diff?

I was able to fix the "Error in 'advmame' opening roms directory '/home/pi/.advance/rom'" issue in advmame.rc by removing that entry from the "dir_rom" line and just making it: dir_rom /home/pi/roms

Well, it works...it's just not very "listenable" which kind of defeats the purpose!!!
